Quiet Nights In

Ever since I started uni, ‘Quiet Nights In’ have become a special part of my life. I’ve always been the kind of person who loves their ‘me’ time and now that I’ve been getting lots of it, I couldn’t be happier. I am finally, truly living for ME. (Yes, I might be going a little overboard with the whole solo-life thing, but it’s awesome and I need to talk about it. So yeah…) :)

This is a pic from one of my ‘Aha!’ moments. I was chilling in my room, listening to Spotify… mentally prepping myself to start revising for an exam.. and it hit me. At that moment, I was completely ALONE. I could do whatever I wanted, and no one would question me. And I didn’t have to think about anyone else. Some people might call it selfish. But boy, did that make me happy.

So I did next what any normal person would do… logged on to Reddit and wasted an embarrassing number of hours ‘lol-ing’ at animal gifs.

Daily Prompt: Bookworms

Yes, I know. I haven’t blogged in a billion years. But today’s Daily Prompt deals with something that’s a big, BIG, BIIIIIG part of who I am. Books. I have been reading since I could well, um, read. :) Romance, murder mysteries, horror, sci fi, Eastern philosophy, Chick-lits… I’ll read anything (if I’m in the mood).

So, although I’m not a photographer, here’s a collection of images that revolve round “books”. To start off, my ‘cupboard of love’ (which is basically a walk-in cupboard full of books):

And of course, there are books everywhere in the house. My bedside table for instance:

My other bedside table:

And finally …. the current love of my life:

Rekha’s perspective on ‘Life Before the Internet’.

Sweet Somethings

So we were having this random conversation this afternoon, my colleague Sushmita and I  and she came up with the idea that we should debate over something, after our highly successful (so we presume) debate in print recently on the last page of the mag I edit. (The topic was E-books vs tree books). But even after 15 minutes, we were not on different pages… we couldn’t find anything to debate about, which was surprising as I am almost a decade older (Ok, ok, I admit more than a decade older!) than she! (which makes me feel very proud, the ‘on the same page’ part!)

And it’s then we started taking of Reddit, social media and went back in time to the obscure chat site which was ICQ. She was in school then and I was already into some years of my career!

And so the internet it was…our point…

Daily Prompt: Share the Love

Tell us about another blogger who has influenced your own online journey.

Since I was small, I used to write a diary. Some would say its a good habit and some would ask why not express it on a public platform? Well either way I was too shy to write for people to read because Im not that great on grammar and neither am I very good with the tenses oh wait no dont run away Im pretty decent and oh so very funny I promise! :)

I used to be very amused by the writings of my best friend because she was so damn good and just to make her laugh and get to her Id make fun of the big big words and the deep meaning because momentarily it was fun! So after coming to college I remember ouu Journalism professor asking us…

Sweet Somethings

When I feel like have a long conversation with someone…

who does not tell me to relax…

is not judgmental…

does not make me feel guilty about anything…

does not use me as a ‘means’ to a selfish end…

who does not want any ‘help’ from me…

who understands that I’m not superwoman…

who listens patiently to all my raves and rants…

who does not keep saying that I need to be more assertive…

who will make me laugh, the full-throated, guffawing kind…

I went for a make-up launch last evening. Perhaps, all I need is a mental makeover!

(This happens when there’s hardly anyone in office and there’s no one to crack all those lame jokes… translate that into… Hey Sush! tumi kothai?)

Day 3 of Rekha’s 30 Day Blog Challenge

Sweet Somethings

The 30-day blogging challenge – Day 3

And so I went against an important cooking rule I learnt in childhood. I began consulting recipes from cookbooks and the Internet. I can picturise Appa looking at me in consternation from somewhere up above as I prop my iPad on the kitchen counter atleast once a week as I discover diverse cooking especially baking with a vengeance.

We were always told that you learnt how to cook by watching others and helping them. This also created a bond of love shared down different generations. But with nuclear families and no extended families the Internet is the next best bet. And so I have been making this

And this…

And more…

There’s something other than a love for cooking that makes food taste divine. Oodles of love that translates into what people call kaivannam or kaipunyam or haath ki jaadu.

I certainly hope…
